This page collects the web applications I have built to put climate and water research into practice. The first group are peer-reviewed technical tools that engineers use to design infrastructure for a changing climate. The second group are browser games I designed for teaching climate-resilient infrastructure. Each game takes 10 to 20 minutes, needs no installation, and ends with debrief questions for class discussion.
Risk-based, climate-adjusted design storms for road drainage
RiskDRAIN gives engineers design storms for highway drainage that account for future climate, not only past rainfall records. It combines statistically downscaled CMIP6 projections for mid- and late-century with a risk score for each site. That risk score weighs physiographic and meteorological hazard against socioeconomic, transportation and environmental vulnerability, and users can adjust the weights. I led the framework and built the app at York University with Dr. Rashid Bashir and Dr. Neil Tandon, in a project funded by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO).

Freezing index and maximum frost depth across Ontario
FrostCast calculates the cumulative freezing index and maximum frost depth at any location in Ontario, for use in pavement and foundation design. Users enter coordinates and get historical values, a statistically determined design freezing index, and projected changes under CMIP5 and CMIP6 scenarios for future periods. Map layers show MTO regions and traffic volumes. The project was led by Dr. Rashid Bashir’s group at York University and funded by MTO. I provided the historical climate data, conducted statistical analysis, and contributed to the app’s development.
